Will a kettle of hot water crack my car windscreen?
Will defrosting my windscreen on a cold morning with hot water crack my windscreen? Normally the answer to this is no, if your windscreen is in perfect condition a windscreen will not suffer from the use of warm water to defrost a windscreen. I would personally avoid using boiling water. You will need to get the inside of the car slightly warm otherwise the windscreen will soon freeze over again if the outside temperature remains below freezing.
If a windscreen has any stone chips the risk of cracking any windscreen exists. During the early part of the evening the air becomes damp, this moisture enters any defects within your windscreen. Once the temperature drops and the moisture freezes the ice expands and this expansion of ice is what causes your windscreen to crack.
How to stop a windscreen cracking when the temperature is below freezing.
