HGV Windscreens

Onsite HGV Glass Replacement

Truck Glass Fitting

We provide an onsite glass replacement service for HGV commercial vehicles, windscreens and side windows. Workshop conditions are required when undertaking this work, to produce a well fitted windscreen without leaks etc we need good working conditions.

Vehicle outside

We will only undertake windscreen replacements outside on a dry day with zero chance of rain, a flat solid surface is essential. There must be sufficient space in front of the vehicle for scaffolding, and both doors must have room to fully open. The temperature should be above zero with no ice on the vehicle

Vehicle inside

Additional requirements if the vehicle is inside are good lighting conditions, preferably natural light.

Fitting Time

This can range from one hour to four hours depending on the make and model of vehicle. A DAF LF as an example is a 90 minute job, the new generation DAF XF and XG would be a 4 hour job. Vehicles with visors increase the labour time as we will normally remove these. We have included fitting times for current vehicles at the bottom of this page. Any vehicles not listed please contact us. Our current labour charge for commercial vehicles is £70.00 plus VAT per hour this includes our standard adhesives but excludes the glass and trims.

Aftermarket attachments

Aftermarket attachments that have been added to the vehicle, cameras, tachograph sensors etc should be removed prior to our arrival by the driver/ customer. We are happy to remove these for you but accept no liability for damage to these items. Refitting of these items, again we are happy to re-attach them but accept no liability if they fall off as damp weather can affect this, we carry double sided tape on our vans but this may be inferior to the original product.

ADAS Solutions

Automated Driver-Assistance Systems

After the windscreen is replaced a calibration should be undertaken to ensure the system still functions correctly. Without this vital safety check the driver should not rely on any of these safety systems.

Rust nuts and bolts.

Rusty wiper nuts, we will not risk damaging the wiper mechanism, if the wiper nuts look rusty and liable to sheer the wiper stalk we will use a nut splitter to remove the wiper nut. We use wiper pullers to remove the wipers. We may have spare nuts on the van, but the customer may need to locate these. We accept no liability for damage to rusty nuts or bolts.

Safe driveaway time. Standard adhesive.

After the windscreen is fitted the adhesive used in the process must be left to cure before the vehicle is moved or driven. This safe driveway time is dependent on the weight of the glass, humidity and temperature. As an example a DAF LF we would recommend a two hour safe driveway time. The new generation DAF XF, XG would be four hours. Our standard adhesive is Sika Tack Drive. This is a premium product. These times will increase during the winter due to low temperatures.

THE CAB SHOULD NOT BE TILTED FOR 24 HOURS.

Premium Plus Adhesive.

We offer a premium adhesive Sika Tack Move. A twin pack adhesive that is chemically cured, fully cured in one hour, can be driven and the cab tilted one hour after fitting. An additional £40.00 charge for this product, notice required as not standard issue on vans.
